Swedish defense company Saab has secured a significant contract from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) for the supply of Giraffe 4A radar systems and related services. The agreement, valued at approximately SEK 1.4 billion, includes deliveries scheduled between 2026 and 2027, aimed at strengthening Sweden’s national air surveillance capabilities.
The Giraffe 4A radar systems are designed to offer advanced, multi-functional capabilities that support both air and sea surveillance as well as military air traffic control. Its mobile platform and software-based upgradeability make it a future-proof solution for evolving defense needs. The system can simultaneously identify and track a high volume of aerial and maritime threats, ensuring real-time situational awareness.
“We are proud to continue supporting the Swedish Armed Forces by providing a critical component of the new sensor system program,” said Carl-Johan Bergholm, Head of Saab’s Business Area Surveillance. “Giraffe 4A strengthens Sweden’s mid-range sensor capabilities and contributes to long-term national defense development.”
This contract further positions Saab as a key contributor to Sweden’s defense modernization strategy and reflects growing investment in cutting-edge radar technology.
