Taiwan has officially received the first batch of Altius-600M drones, marking a major step forward in its efforts to build a resilient and asymmetric defense strategy. The loitering munitions, developed by U.S.-based Anduril Industries, have been delivered to the Republic of China Army (ROC Army).
To mark the occasion, Defense Minister Wellington Koo met with Anduril founder Palmer Luckey in Taipei. During the meeting, Minister Koo reaffirmed the ROC Armed Forces’ commitment to adopting next-generation technologies to counter evolving security threats.
“Taiwan remains dedicated to strengthening our asymmetric capabilities and building a defense posture suited to modern warfare,” said Minister Koo.
Altius-600M: Tactical Precision for Modern Conflict
The Altius-600M is a precision-guided loitering munition designed for long-range reconnaissance and strike missions. Lightweight, portable, and equipped with modular payloads, the system offers significant operational flexibility for rapid deployment in contested environments.
Its integration into Taiwan’s defense framework demonstrates a shift toward high-mobility, technology-driven deterrence, aligning with the island’s broader strategy for modern combat readiness.
Taiwan-U.S. Defense Ties Deepen
The arrival of the Altius-600M drones further strengthens the growing Taiwan–U.S. defense relationship. As Taiwan faces increasing pressure in the Indo-Pacific region, partnerships with leading U.S. defense firms are becoming essential to the island’s strategic resilience.
This delivery also underscores Taiwan’s proactive approach in leveraging advanced unmanned systems to ensure force survivability and strategic depth.
