The U.S. Department of State has approved two separate Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to the Republic of Türkiye, aimed at strengthening the country’s air combat capabilities. The combined estimated value of the proposed sales is approximately $304 million.
The first package, valued at $225 million, includes the sale of fifty-three (53) AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and six (6) AMRAAM guidance sections. In addition to the missiles, the sale encompasses containers, support equipment, reprogramming tools, spare parts, consumables, classified software, and technical documentation, as well as U.S. Government and contractor support services.
The second approved sale, worth $79.1 million, covers sixty (60) AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II All-Up-Round (AUR) missiles and eleven (11) AIM-9X Block II tactical guidance units. This package also includes missile containers, spare parts, support equipment, and related logistical support.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has officially notified the U.S. Congress of both potential sales, emphasizing that the proposed deals will enhance the interoperability and defensive readiness of a key NATO ally without altering the basic military balance in the region.
