U.S. Approves $500M Sale of M142 HIMARS to Bahrain

The U.S. State Department has approved a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to the Government of Bahrain for the purchase of M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and related equipment, with an estimated value of $500 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of the deal.

Under the request, Bahrain will acquire:

  • Four (4) M142 HIMARS launchers

  • Three (3) International Field Artillery Tactical Data Systems

The package also includes a range of non-Major Defense Equipment (non-MDE) items, such as:

  • M28A2 Low-Cost Reduced-Range Practice Rocket Pods

  • High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle Fire Direction Centers

  • M1084A3 HIMARS resupply vehicles

  • HIMARS Driver Vision Enhancer systems

  • AN/PSN-13 Defense Advanced GPS Receivers

  • Support and test equipment

  • Simulators, generators, and integration support

  • Spares, repair parts, and communications equipment

  • Software delivery and support services

  • Facilities and construction assistance

  • Publications and technical documentation

  • Personnel training and training equipment

  • U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support

  • Studies, surveys, and other related program support elements

According to the DSCA, the sale will enhance Bahrain’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing a highly mobile and precise long-range strike capability. The M142 HIMARS is a proven system used by U.S. and allied forces worldwide for both deterrence and rapid response operations.
