The U.S. Army has selected L3Harris Technologies to support its Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) transport layer requirements through a $24 million contract aimed at advancing the Army’s integrated data and communications network.
Under the agreement, L3Harris will deliver the new AN/PRC-158C NGC2 Gateway Manpack to the Army’s 4th Infantry Division ahead of their participation in Project Convergence 2026 — a major military experiment focused on testing emerging command, control, and communications technologies across domains.
According to Sam Mehta, President of Communication Systems at L3Harris, the NGC2 program demands exceptional performance, resilience, and cybersecurity.
“The Army’s NGC2 program is too important to accept anything less than success in execution, including system protection against device compromise, external threats to the network and data spillage,” Mehta said.
“We are the only industry partner delivering battle-proven, software-defined radio technology that meets the Department of War’s appetite for high-data throughput with the network security, resilience, and integrity required to ensure battlespace supremacy.”
The L3Harris data device delivers high data throughput to enable the Army’s data fabric, providing multiple transport options for enhanced resilience and interoperability that support connectivity across NATO and Homeland Security operations.
L3Harris has long supported major U.S. Army initiatives, including the Handheld, Manpack & Small Form Fit (HMS) program, and continues to advance software-defined tactical communications with a proven record of innovation, adaptability, and rapid response to battlefield needs.
