New delivery of combat tested Su-35S fighters to Russian Air Force

UAC Delivers New Su-35S Fighters to Russian Aerospace Forces

The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), a division of Rostec State Corporation, has delivered a new batch of Su-35S fighter aircraft to the Russian Aerospace Forces as part of the state defense procurement program.

The multirole Su-35S fighters completed an extensive cycle of factory testing before being officially accepted by technical specialists from the Russian Ministry of Defense. After final inspections and test flights, the aircraft were flown to their operational deployment base.

“The aviation industry continues to meet its obligations effectively. These deliveries are part of the scheduled production cycle,” said Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy General Director of Rostec. “Several more aircraft are in production and will be transferred as planned.”

The Su-35S is equipped with advanced avionics, long-range targeting systems, and precision-guided munitions. The fighter is capable of performing a wide range of missions, including air superiority and precision strikes against ground and naval targets. It is also optimized for day-and-night operations in complex weather environments.

“The Su-35S can operate at long distances from its base and offers exceptional combat performance,” Artyakov added.

Russian military experts usually highlight the long-range radar (detects targets up to 350 km away) and the ability to equally effectively perform both interceptor and strike missions among the key technical advantages of the Su-35. Special emphasis is also placed on such Su-35’s advantages as electro-optical capabilities enabling covert strikes without radar detection, high survivability due to advanced electronic warfare systems, low radar cross-section, and redundant critical systems, as well as group coordination capability (one fighter jet leads and synchronizes attacks for other ones).
The Su-35S is constantly featured in news about the conflict in Ukraine as the main combat asset of Russian aviation. The effectiveness of the Su-35 has been noticed, for example, by the American Rand Corporation.
“Large Russian air superiority fighters such as the MiG-31 and Su-35 can see significantly farther with their powerful, modern radars. They also have R-37 missiles that have a much longer range than NATO-supplied AIM-120 AMRAAMs. In other words, Russian aircraft can potentially spot Ukrainian F-16s and shoot them down before the Ukrainian pilots see them coming. This is exactly what has been happening with Ukraine’s current fleet of Su-27 and MiG-29 fighters”, wrote RAND in one of its reports.
The Russian Air Force version is designated Su-35S, while on the global market, the fighter jet is marketed as Su-35.
