UAE Navy’s Abu Dhabi-Class Corvette P-191 Participates in AMAN 2025 Multinational Maritime Exercise

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Navy’s Abu Dhabi-class corvette P-191 participated in the AMAN 2025 multinational maritime exercise, held from February 7 to February 11, 2025, in the Arabian Sea. Hosted by the Pakistan Navy, this high-profile exercise brought together naval forces from over 60 countries, fostering regional stability, maritime security, and international naval cooperation.

Details of Abu Dhabi-Class Corvette P-191

The P-191 is a state-of-the-art Abu Dhabi-class corvette, designed to enhance the UAE Navy’s maritime defense and coastal security capabilities. Built by Fincantieri, the Abu Dhabi-class corvettes are modern multi-role warships, equipped for surveillance, anti-surface warfare, and air defense missions.

Key features of Abu Dhabi-Class Corvette P-191 include:

1- Weapon Systems: Armed with an OTO Melara 76mm naval gun, Exocet anti-ship missiles, MBDA surface-to-air missiles, and a twin-launch RAM system for close-range air defense, ensuring a powerful and balanced offensive and defensive capability.
2- Electronic Warfare & Surveillance: Features advanced radar systems, electronic countermeasures, and fire-control technology, improving situational awareness and engagement precision.
3- Aviation Capabilities: Includes a helicopter deck capable of accommodating AW139 or similar helicopters, enhancing anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and search-and-rescue (SAR) operations.
4- Specifications: With a displacement of 1,650 tons and a maximum speed exceeding 25 knots, the P-191 is optimized for patrol, escort, and maritime security operations.

The exercise was divided into two key phases:

1- Harbor Phase: Hosted in Karachi, this phase featured strategic briefings, multinational naval conferences, and cultural exchange events, fostering camaraderie among participating navies.

2- Sea Phase: Conducted in the Arabian Sea, this phase included joint maritime drills such as anti-piracy operations, search-and-rescue (SAR) exercises, and naval interdiction operations, improving practical collaboration in real-world maritime security scenarios.

AMAN Dialogue: A Strategic Naval Forum
A major highlight of AMAN 2025 was the AMAN Dialogue, an exclusive forum for discussions on regional maritime security, multilateral cooperation, and emerging naval challenges. The UAE delegation underscored the importance of collaborative maritime efforts, emphasizing the role of regional and international naval alliances in securing trade routes and countering maritime threats. The participation of the Abu Dhabi-class corvette P-191 in AMAN 2025 reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to maritime security and multinational cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
