UltiMaker Introduces Secure Line of 3D Printers for Defense and Aerospace Applications

UltiMaker, a leading manufacturer of 3D printing solutions, has launched a new Secure Line of 3D printers designed for defense and high-security environments. The new lineup includes the UltiMaker S6 Secure and UltiMaker S8 Secure, both of which are engineered to provide reliable, on-demand production capabilities in military and aerospace operations.

The introduction of the Secure Line comes as defense organizations increasingly seek decentralized and resilient manufacturing solutions to reduce reliance on vulnerable supply chains.

A Shift Toward Secure Additive Manufacturing

According to the company, the Secure Line combines industrial-grade 3D printing performance with advanced cybersecurity protections, aligning with modern defense IT standards. The systems are designed for deployment across land, sea, and air operations, with features that include air-gapped, USB-only workflows and the exclusion of Wi-Fi, cloud services, and third-party devices.

Security measures such as tamper-resistant firmware, encrypted file handling, and hardware-sealed components are intended to eliminate risks of espionage, data theft, and remote intrusion.

Andy Middleton, UltiMaker’s Senior Vice President for EMEA and Global Marketing, said the development marks “a strategic leap in making additive manufacturing a trusted and deployable asset for defense organizations.”

Tactical Deployment Capabilities

The printers are built with compact and rugged designs suitable for use in mobile units, naval deployments, and military bases. By enabling production of mission-critical parts and tools directly in the field, the Secure Line aims to reduce downtime and ensure operational continuity in demanding environments.

UltiMaker’s Chief Technology Officer, Arjen Dirks, noted that the Secure Line was created with “security built into every layer” to meet internationally recognized defense standards.

Technical and Operational Benefits

Both the S6 Secure and S8 Secure integrate UltiMaker’s Cheetah motion planner, high-flow print cores, and upgraded feeder systems, which the company says deliver up to four times the productivity of previous models. The printers also support multi-material printing and are compatible with the wide range of engineering-grade materials available through the UltiMaker Marketplace.

Trusted in NATO-Aligned Operations

Manufactured in the Netherlands under strict European quality and compliance standards, the Secure Line reflects UltiMaker’s established role in supplying 3D printing solutions to NATO-aligned defense organizations. Each system will be produced in limited batches, tailored to specific defense requirements, with availability beginning immediately.

The Secure Line launch underscores the growing role of additive manufacturing in defense strategies worldwide, where secure, localized production is increasingly seen as essential to maintaining tactical advantage.
