Airbus has officially delivered the first A321XLR aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines to Wizz Air, marking a significant milestone in commercial aviation. This delivery not only makes Wizz Air the world’s first operator of the Pratt & Whitney-powered variant but also the first low-cost carrier in Europe to introduce the long-range narrowbody aircraft into service.
The A321XLR is equipped with 239 single-class seats and features the new Airspace cabin by Airbus, designed for enhanced passenger comfort with dynamic lighting options for different flight phases—boarding, dining, relaxing, and sleeping.
With this delivery, Wizz Air strengthens its ability to operate longer routes efficiently, particularly between Europe and the Middle East, while maintaining its low-cost model. The airline, which operates an all-Airbus fleet of over 230 A320 Family aircraft, has 295 aircraft still on order.
Efficiency and Innovation in a Single Platform
The A321XLR is the latest evolution in the A320neo Family, designed to meet market demands for increased range and payload without compromising efficiency. The aircraft offers:
-
Unprecedented range of up to 4,700 nautical miles
-
30% lower fuel burn per seat compared to previous-generation aircraft
-
Reduced NOx emissions and lower noise footprint
The aircraft’s delivery underscores Airbus’s continued leadership in the single-aisle long-haul segment, with over 500 orders already placed for the A321XLR globally.
Strategic Move for Wizz Air
As Wizz Air expands its network reach, the A321XLR enables the airline to tap into new long-haul opportunities and further improve fuel and operational efficiency. It also aligns with the carrier’s sustainability goals by leveraging cutting-edge propulsion technology through the Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, known for reduced environmental impact.
This milestone reinforces the strategic relationship between Airbus, Wizz Air, and Pratt & Whitney, delivering high-performance, long-range solutions tailored for modern low-cost operations.
