Türkiye Successfully Tests Submarine-Launched ATMACA Anti-Ship Missile

Türkiye has successfully conducted a test launch of the encapsulated ATMACA, the submarine-launched version of Roketsan’s ATMACA submarine-launched missile, from the TCG PREVEZE submarine. This successful test marks a major advancement in Türkiye’s naval strike capabilities, enhancing the strategic reach and deterrence of the Turkish Navy.

Successful Test and Its Strategic Impact

The ATMACA submarine-launched missile was fired from a torpedo tube, successfully surfaced, and gained altitude using its first-stage solid-fuel motor. This capability places Türkiye among a select group of nations capable of deploying submarine-launched anti-ship missiles — a critical advantage in modern naval warfare.

The integration of the ATMACA submarine-launched missile into submarine vertical launch and capsule systems will significantly increase Türkiye’s operational flexibility and strike capability. This new capability enhances both strategic deterrence and offensive potential, reinforcing Türkiye’s position as a key player in naval warfare.

ATMACA Cruise Missile: Key Features and Capabilities

The ATMACA cruise missile is a long-range, precision-guided weapon designed for sea-skimming and land attack missions. Co-developed by Roketsan and Aselsan, the missile features advanced guidance and targeting technologies, ensuring high accuracy and resistance to electronic countermeasures.

Technical Specifications of ATMACA Submarine-Launched Missile

The ATMACA missile is equipped with advanced technical features that enhance its combat effectiveness:
Length: 4.3–5.2 meters
Weight: Less than 750 kg
Range: Over 220 km
Warhead Type: High Explosive with Effective Penetration and Fragmentation
Warhead Weight: 220 kg
Guidance System: Inertial Navigation System (INS) + Global Positioning System (GPS) + Barometric Altimeter + Radar Altimeter

Strategic Advantage and Future Integration

Türkiye plans to integrate the ATMACA submarine-launched missile into its fleet of U-214TN Reis-class AIP submarines, enhancing their operational reach and versatility. The ATMACA missile is already deployed on Ada-class corvettes, Istanbul-class frigates, and future TF-2000-class destroyers.

The successful test launch from a submarine marks a critical step in Türkiye’s defense modernization strategy. This missile test strengthens the Turkish Navy’s ability to project power at sea, providing a strategic advantage in both defensive and offensive naval operations.
