Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia’s national carrier, Malaysia Airlines, has signed a firm order with Airbus for 20 additional A330-900 aircraft. This Malaysia Airlines A330neo fleet expansion will double the airline’s future A330neo fleet to 40 aircraft, reinforcing MAG’s commitment to fleet modernization, operational efficiency, and enhanced passenger experience.
The announcement was made during the official visit of Malaysia’s Prime Minister, H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, to France—highlighting the growing aviation and industrial collaboration between Malaysia and Europe.
Strengthening MAG’s Premium Fleet Strategy
MAG initially selected the A330neo in 2022 as part of its widebody fleet renewal program, with a commitment for 20 aircraft. To date, four aircraft have been delivered and are already in service on key regional and long-haul routes. These routes include Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, Auckland, and Bali.
Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG, stated:
“The A330neo continues to deliver the right balance of operational efficiency, range, and cabin comfort to support our network and growth strategy. With its enhanced fuel efficiency and flexibility across both regional and long-haul routes, the aircraft is a strong fit for our evolving market needs. This additional order reinforces our long-term vision of building a future-ready fleet that supports sustainable growth, delivers consistent value to our passengers, and strengthens our competitiveness in key markets.”
Airbus Welcomes Malaysia Airlines’ Confidence in A330neo
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales at Airbus, commented:
“We are proud to further strengthen our relationship with Malaysia Aviation Group as it expands its A330neo fleet. This repeat order is a strong endorsement of the A330neo’s exceptional performance, fuel efficiency, versatility, and passenger comfort. It also underscores the aircraft’s continued popularity among premium airlines worldwide.”
A330neo: Optimized Performance and Passenger Comfort
The latest Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines power the aircraft A330-900. The aircraft has a maximum range of 7,200 nautical miles (13,300 kilometers). It features Airbus’ award-winning Airspace cabin, delivering elevated levels of passenger comfort, increased personal space, larger overhead bins, and the latest in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems.
The aircraft is designed with sustainability in mind. It is capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus aims to enable 100% SAF capability across all aircraft platforms by 2030.
A Global Leader in Widebody Efficiency
As of May 2025, the Airbus A330 Family has recorded over 1,800 firm orders from more than 130 customers globally, leading the widebody market segment.
