The PSR-90 Sniper Rifle constitutes a Pakistani conceptualization inspired by the German PSG-1 rifle, incorporating the G3 firing mechanism as its foundational framework. It delivers augmented firepower coupled with the precision characteristic of a dedicated sniper rifle, mirroring the attributes of its German counterpart. Despite its semi-automatic nature, this rifle exhibits accuracy on par with bolt-action sniper rifles, attesting to its advanced engineering and precision capabilities.
Weighing in at 8.1 kilograms with an overall length of 1158 mm, the rifle features a polygonally rifled barrel spanning 600 mm, complemented by a fully adjustable stock. Operating in a semi-automatic fashion through Roller-Delayed Blowback action, it is designed to accommodate 7.62×51mm cartridges and can also handle .308 rounds.
Launching projectiles at a muzzle velocity of 870 m/s, the rifle exhibits an effective range of 1000 meters. Ammunition is fed from a detachable magazine, offering options for 5 or 20 rounds. The rifle showcases an impressive accuracy, achieving a 90 mm group at a distance of 300 meters. Optionally, a trigger pull of 1.6 kg can be integrated.
For precision targeting, the rifle is typically paired with a 5.5-22×50 NXS sight, although a 6×42 telescopic sight can serve as an alternative. Additional features, such as a Silencer Telescopic sight and a carrying sling, can be included or omitted based on user preference.
Despite its foundational basis on the PSG1, the PSR-90 exhibits distinctive visual deviations. Notably, it incorporates a modified and shortened variant of the G3 bipod in lieu of specialized bipods and tripods. The design of its stock and handguard markedly differs from that of the PSG-1. Furthermore, it adopts a straightforward G3-style pistol grip rather than the specialized grip characteristic of the PSG-1. Most significantly, the PSR-90 introduces a modern touch with a Picatinny rail on the receiver, rendering it considerably more versatile in terms of available optics options compared to its German counterpart.
The weapon is currently in service with Pakistani Special Forces, and its appeal has transcended national borders, securing limited yet notable export success. Vietnam stands as one such example where the weapon has found application within specialized units of the armed forces.
