Baykar, Türkiye’s leading defense and aerospace contractor, has expanded its footprint in Africa by opening a maintenance hub in Morocco. The facility will provide Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services for drones sold to the Moroccan Armed Forces, ensuring sustained operational efficiency. In addition to the hub, Baykar has also established a local subsidiary, Altas Defence, to support its activities in the country, a source familiar with this development informed Global Defense Insight.
Morocco currently operates two of Baykar’s advanced unmanned aerial systems (UAS): the Bayraktar TB2 and the Bayraktar Akıncı. The new maintenance hub will enhance the availability and readiness of these UAVs, streamlining logistics and reducing downtime. This initiative underscores Baykar’s long-term commitment to the African defense market, reinforcing Türkiye’s growing defense partnerships across the continent.
With the establishment of Altus Defence and the MRO facility, Baykar is strengthening its strategic position in North Africa. The move aligns with the company’s broader vision of expanding global support infrastructure, enabling localized maintenance solutions, and fostering deeper defense collaborations. As Morocco continues to modernize its military capabilities, Baykar’s investment will play a crucial role in supporting the country’s evolving defense needs.
