The Estonian Centre for Defence Investments (ECDI) and SAKO Ltd have announced that a contract has been signed for the procurement and delivery of new sniper rifles. As a long-standing STEINER customer, the Estonian Armed Forces have decided to rely on the STEINER M5Xi 5-25×56 riflescope, following in the footsteps of other NATO forces such as the French Army and the German Bundeswehr.
The contract covers the delivery of the Sako TRG M10 sniper rifle in cal. .338, a Steiner M5Xi 5-25×56 precision riflescope with MSR-2 reticle, as well as signature reducer and thermal imaging attachment. At the end of a tough and demanding testing phase, the overall package offered convinced with the best overall performance, beating out four other systems, two of which relied on the Steiner M5Xi 5-25×56.
When selecting the system, great attention was paid to both high-quality components such as the targeting optics, as well as high precision and robustness, according to Major Risto Pärtel, Chief Armorer of the Estonian Armed Forces. The snipers’ task is to precisely engage high-value targets and remain undetected in the process, Major Pärtel continued – and this precise action on targets until 1,500m is ensured, among other things, by the outstanding optical performance as well as the repeatable and precise reticle adjustment of the Steiner M5Xi 5-25×56.The framework agreement concluded has a term of 7 years.
“We are grateful and proud that our long-standing partners in the Estonian Defence Forces have decided to also trust in the performance of our rifle scopes after their excellent experience with our binoculars. We are convinced that our M5Xi 5-25×56 rifle scope will provide the Estonian Defence Forces as well as the Defence League with the necessary precision and reliability to operate professional in all situations”, says Christoph Weigler, Vice President of Steiner Optik GmbH. “We are also grateful to the colleagues of our sister company Sako for the once again excellent cooperation.”
Steiner rifle scopes of the M5Xi and M7Xi series have been able to make a strong name for themselves in recent years and have prevailed over the competition in numerous procurements worldwide. A similar package was already chosen by the Finnish Armed Forces last year as part of a joint development project, with the M7Xi 2.9-20×50 and Sako’s M23 as the rifle system.
The development of these precision optics is the result of close cooperation and intensive exchange of experience with military special forces of various nations. The task is to provide the user with the necessary optics to successfully complete his missions.
