LIMA 2023 Draws High-Level Delegation from Italy

The Italian Embassy, in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency and the office of the Defence Attaché, has coordinated Italy’s presence at the 2023 Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA ’23).

Italy and Malaysia have built strong bonds of friendship over the years, including in the strategic sectors of defence, security, and law enforcement. In line with Italy’s commitment to enhancing this partnership, a high-level delegation comprising officials from the Ministry of Defence, the Italian Navy (Marina Militare Italiana) and the leadership of the Italian Defence industry will be attending the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) in 2023.

The Italian Navy will be showcasing its advanced military vessel, the ITS “FRANCESCO MOROSINI,” which was christened only a few months ago. This 6,400-tonne, 143-metre-long ship is the second of a class of seven vessels and will be docked at the Port of Langkawi on 24 May, 2023.

The participation of the Italian Navy and the Italian Defence industry provides a platform to explore new avenues of cooperation and further enhance the relationship between the two nations. It is a significant opportunity for Italy and Malaysia to showcase their capabilities and foster strategic partnerships in these vital sectors.

The Italian Ambassador to Malaysia, H.E. Massimo Rustico, has highlighted that   “…as we continue to strengthen the long-standing relationship between Italy and Malaysia, our participation to LIMA 2023 demonstrates Italy’s unwavering commitment to deepening cooperation in the strategic fields of defence, security, and law enforcement. We look forward to exploring new avenues of collaboration at this important event and showcase Italy’s advanced expertise and capabilities as a player at global level“.

The Italian industry  will showcase a range of defense advanced technologies including from naval, and aerospace industries. The ITALIA pavilion will showcase leading Italian companies such as  Teknel, Sigma Consulting Srl, Elettronica Group, and Electron Source Co..

These renowned companies specialize in providing high-quality products and services in the Aerospace and Maritime Defense domains including through strategic industrial partnerships. They prioritize knowledge and expertise sharing to deliver innovative solutions that cater to industry requirements and drive industry growth. The event provides a unique opportunity for visitors to explore some of the best Italian cutting-edge solutions and the potential to establish partnerships with Malaysian businesses.

With over 50 years of experience, Teknel offers ISO MIL-STD Shelter Systems, Power Generators, and advanced cooling and HVAC systems, while Electron Source Co. manufactures high-performance electromechanical and solid-state relays, timers, and electronic sensors for the aerospace and defense industries. Sigma Consulting is an Italian system integrator that designs electronic and ICT systems for various fields, including aerospace and defense, security, and territorial surveillance. Elettronica, an internationally recognized  player in Electronic Warfare and Cyber security,   which designs systems for strategic surveillance, self-protection, intelligence gathering, electronic defense, and operational support for the sea, land, and air domains.

Moreover, Italy will be among the leading nations at LIMA’23 with the presence of truly global players in the naval military and civilian industry such as  Fincantieri and in the aviation, defense, space, electronics and cyber domains such as Leonardo. Fincantieri, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups with shipyards all over the world will display a large pavilion, while Leonardo, among the top 8 global defence players, will display a Chalet with some of the most advanced technologies.

The ITALIA Pavilion will provide visitors with a unique opportunity to explore cutting-edge products and services developed by the Italian defence industry.  Visitors will experience first-hand the functionality, performance, and quality of Italian-made products through interactive displays, demonstrations, and simulations.

The Italian Pavilion will be located at Hall B, Booth No. B19b at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre in Langkawi. Attendees are invited to visit from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and learn more about the participating companies, their advanced technologies and collaboration opportunities.
