Saab starts production of Finnish Navy’s composite masts

Saab started the production of masts for the new ships of the Finnish Navy on August 15, 2023. An official ceremony was held at Saab’s site in Karlskrona and masts are manufactured in the same composite material that the Swedish Visby-class corvettes are made of.

Saab signed an agreement with the Finnish Navy for the production and integration of a combat management system in September 2019. The masts that Saab manufactures for the Finnish Navy are equivalent in height to a five-story building. These masts are part of 4 new Pohjanmaa class multi-role corvettes (also termed as Squadron 2020 programme).

We look forward to delivering our world-leading composite solutions and combat systems in close cooperation with our Finnish customer,” says Mats Wicksell, Senior Vice President and Head of Saab’s Business Area Kockums.
