UDT 2024: Largest global undersea defence technology event returns to London

Undersea Defence Technology (UDT) is a multi-faceted exhibition and conference that addresses the growing requirement to advance knowledge, policy and development on emerging undersea defence technologies. The three-day event is designed to equip nations with the knowledge and tools to address the increasing diversity of threats and challenges that take place undersea.

The overarching theme of this year’s event acknowledges the inherent difficulty in navigating the underwater landscape. Undersea resources are significant economic and strategic assets, and as a result, nations must be able to successfully deter and defend against attempts to damage critical undersea infrastructures.

UDT stands as the primary global platform where representatives from nation’s navies and governments worldwide, alongside industry experts, will delve into how technological advances including Artificial Intelligence, contribute to reinforcing undersea defences to ensure nations maintain the strategic edge at sea.

UDT will delve into six focus areas including platform design, sensors and processing, weapons and countermeasures, uncrewed, remotely piloted and autonomous systems, operational drivers and AI along with Big Data and Advanced Analytics.

Experts from around the globe set to drive discussion on a vast array of topics on undersea capabilities

Spanning across three days, UDT gathers senior military personnel and the defence industry’s brightest minds from across the world to discuss the rapid advances in digital and autonomous technology. Keynote speakers are poised to drive discussions on the impact of the development of technological advances, particularly the development of Maritime Unmanned Systems (MUS) along with advanced sensing and computing to drive the protection against underwater threats.

Speakers are also expected to comment on how recent geopolitical events compound the need for rapid innovation within this sector. Drawing from how activities of non-state actors illuminate vulnerabilities within the maritime arena, and how this generates space for innovative thought and technological development to address these threats directly.

The theme and content of the event are shaped by the UDT committee which represents the users, industry and academia of the undersea defence community. UDT’s technical planning committee provides unique advice to organisers regarding the needs of their audience and the upcoming trends being explored across the research base.

Who attends?

A variety of people will be in attendance including military, defence media, defence academics and defence company representatives.  Defence companies will be in attendance from across the supply chain. Prime manufacturers such as Babcock, Lockheed Martin and Saab will exhibit alongside various smaller specialised companies. There will be a large UK and US presence at the show in addition to companies from France, Italy, Turkey, Sweden and many more.
